"No person ever steps in the same river twice. For it's not the same river and they're not the same person."

What I enjoy most about this profession is the constant learning it provides and awareness it requires. Like a river, we are in constant motion—physically, mentally, emotionally. The mind-body connection never ceases to amaze me and always informs my whole-person approach. There are a multitude of techniques that can be implemented to support the body’s needs on all levels, at each appointment. My goal is to provide a safe space for healing on my clients’ unique journey to a fully healthy, happy body.

About Jennifer

Jennifer (Jenny) Johnson has been a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) since 2006, graduating from Cortiva Institute in Broomfield, CO, with a focus in sports massage. In 2022, she added Certified Manual Lymphatic Drainage Therapist (CMLDT) to her credentials through training at the Klose Academy. She is an insured member of Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP).

Jennifer specializes in supporting clients with chronic pain, hip and shoulder pathologies, and recovery from joint replacements. While she has worked on a variety of musculoskeletal issues, some of her favorite work is on Temporal Mandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJD) including intra-oral work. Dedicated to continually enhancing her practice, Jennifer also participates in ongoing coursework from Precision Neuromuscular Therapy (PNMT) to refine her craft and increase her tools for identifying the “what” and the “why” behind people’s pain.

A Colorado native and current Western Slope resident, Jennifer lives with her family in Montrose, CO, where she enjoys hiking and exploring herbal remedies. Her office is located within Montrose Massage Therapy where she meets with clients by appointment.

Neuromuscular Therapy

Neuromuscular therapy is a form of soft tissue massage that aims to alleviate chronic muscle tension and pain that could be caused by trauma, postural dysfunctions or repetitive movement injuries by targeting muscles and other soft-tissues that play a role in the pain cycle. (Unlike more general massage, where every body part is addressed equally in a session.) The work is more specific at targeting the important areas with the intention to help relieve your pain.

Some of Jennifer’s favorite areas to work on are the:

  • Head and neck
  • Shoulders
  • Lower back
  • Hips
Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) is a specialized massage technique specifically designed to support your lymph system. Not only does it have therapeutic benefits; it is very gentle, calming, and relaxing. Benefits of MLD include:

  • Decreasing inflammation
  • Reducing pain
  • Post-surgical swelling
  • Spasticity and tremors
  • Pregnancy edema (once cleared of pre-eclampsia)
  • Re-routing lymph fluid in cases of compromised lymph nodes or blocked areas
  • Relief of migraine headaches
  • Sprains or strains
  • Cosmetic procedures; Liposuction
  • Detoxifying and enhancing immunity
  • Promoting tissue health
  • Relieving stress

Absolute contraindications for MLD include: fever/ signs of infection, acute cellulitis, untreated congestive heart failure (CHF) or cardiac edema, and acute untreated deep venous thrombosis (DVT). Additional conditions or considerations may impact your ability to receive MLD therapy. Please call Jennifer to discuss how you might benefit from Manual Lymph Drainage.
